Eileen MoonEileen Moon, Artistic Director of Warwick Music Series, was born and raised in Los Altos, California. She began her cello studies at the age of ten with Frances Bennion and continued with Irene Sharp at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. As a member of the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra (PACO), she toured Europe as principal cellist and featured soloist in 1986. Ms. Moon participated and performed regularly in solo recitals, chamber music performances and orchestral concerts in the Bay Area. She participated in the Piatigorsky Seminar at University of Southern California (1997), where she worked with Yo-Yo Ma, William Pleeth and Gary Hoffman. She has performed in master classes with Paul Tortelier, Yo-Yo Ma, Zara Nelsova and Isaac Stern. While a student at The Juilliard School, Ms. Moon coached with Felix Galimir and members of the Shanghai String Quartet, participated in the Juilliard Quartet Seminar and was a Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center in 1989 and 1990.

After her studies at the Hochschule fur Musik in Vienna, Austria, Ms. Moon began her professional career in the United States. She played at Music in the Vineyards (1997) in Napa Valley before moving to New York to join the cello section of the New York Philharmonic in 1998. She was named Associate Principal Cello in 2007. Ms. Moon has performed at the Kosciusko Foundation as part of the Lyric Chamber Music Series, the Metropolitan Museum chamber music series, the Mostly Music series, Merkin Hall as part of the New York Philharmonic ensembles, the Westchester Chamber Music Series and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

Eileen’s huge passions are running, animals and event planning for charitable causes. In 2000 she founded, along with Dorian Rence (violist, NY Philharmonic), The Artemis Project, a nonprofit animal rescue organization in NYC. She is currently on their board and has both performed at and helped to organize various benefit events aimed at raising money for stray and abandoned animals. Ms. Moon is also a supporter of Celebrate Life Half Marathon, a non profit road race whose main objective is to assist cancer patients with the financial and related burdens of treatment and care. In June of 2012, Eileen formed the auxiliary group Friends of Warwick Valley Humane Society (www.alwaysforanimals.org), a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for neglected, abandoned and stray animals in the Warwick Valley through educational and creative seminars and performances. She is Artistic Advisor at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts and curator of its chamber music series, Sundays with Friends. She is Artistic Director of Warwick Music Series, whose mission is to incorporate performances of the highest caliber musicians into the community-rich fabric of the Warwick Valley.

Ms. Moon joined the faculty of NYU Steinhardt in 2012, serves on the Board of Directors of Orange County Arts Council and resides in Warwick, New York.
